Started in 2015, the RISE Book Club is another way for people to engage with reconciliation through learning. Currently the RISE Book Club features several books each season, running September to June, with self-directed reading and a virtual event with the author.
What We’re Reading
In recognition of the 100th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 11, RISE Book Club is reading the 2021 Special Edition of We Remember the Coming of the White Man which chronicles the history of the Dene People in the early 20th century. This book is from editors Sarah Stewart and Raymond Yakeleya, and features the contributions of many Artists, Authors, Elders and Storytellers.
Over the next seven weeks, we will be posting sections of reading and questions to consider in the Facebook event and in the reading guide. You can follow along with us or read ahead.
You are invited to join us virtually for a group discussion and chance to hear from editor and storyteller Raymond Yakeleya. Register now for this event on Wednesday, June 9 at 7:00 PM. Registration is required and space for the event will be limited. Use your EPL library card to register for free today! (You can also now register with your name and email, even without a card). Only those who are registered will receive the ZOOM link to participate.
This event is offered in partnership with Edmonton Public Library.
Please Note: While RISE Book Club is reading the 2021 Special Edition you will be able to meaningfully participate in discussions with the previous edition of this book.
